How English-letter Urdu typing works

Write an Urdu word with English letters and press Space. Write Urdu then suggests the same word in Urdu script.

When you type mera naam Ali hai, the editor can suggest میرا نام علی ہے. Suggestions are added word by word as you press Space.

You can select an alternative suggestion, edit the Urdu directly, or use the on-screen Urdu keyboard when you need a specific character. The final wording remains yours.

This writes your Urdu words in Urdu script

It does not translate an English sentence into Urdu. You type the Urdu words you want to say using English letters, and Write Urdu changes how those words are written.

Why one English spelling can have several Urdu answers

People spell Urdu sounds differently with English letters. Context, pronunciation and the surrounding words can change which Urdu spelling is most useful.

Review the sentence

Read the complete Urdu sentence rather than accepting an isolated word. Grammar and meaning often make the right suggestion clearer.

Expect alternatives

A writer may type khair, kher or khayr for related sounds. Try another spelling when the first result looks wrong.

Check names and specialist terms

Names, places and uncommon words may need direct keyboard input or an alternative suggestion instead of the first result.

English-letter typing or direct Urdu keyboard?

Choose the input method that matches your familiarity with Urdu script and the level of control you need.

Use English-letter typing when speed matters

Start on the Write Urdu homepage when you are comfortable spelling Urdu sounds with English letters and want Urdu suggestions as you type.

Use the Urdu keyboard for precise characters

Open the Urdu Keyboard when you know the script, need exact punctuation, or want to insert a character directly.

Formatting comes after the wording is right

Move to the Rich Text Editor when the finished writing needs headings, fonts, lists, alignment or export-ready formatting.

A practical proofreading routine

Important writing should be reviewed before it is copied, shared or exported.

  1. Type one short phrase with English letters and press Space to see the Urdu suggestion.
  2. Read the Urdu result from right to left and check names, numbers and punctuation.
  3. Use the suggestion list or Urdu keyboard to correct an ambiguous word.
  4. Use Clean spacing and find-and-replace tools when a longer draft is ready.
  5. Copy or export only after the final Urdu text has been reviewed.
